Awareness Campaign “Pigs do not exist” – from zootechnics to subjectivities
A recent outbreak of ASF (African Swine Fever) in Italy, is making the current gap of knowledge and awareness regarding other animals as subjectivities – instead of objects within the field of zootechnics – extremely visible. The threat of the ASF outbreak has created an even more life-threatening measurement against pigs in Liguria, put in place by a regional ordinance.
An ordinance having nothing to do with the safety of the pigs and boars, as it is put in place providing a mass extermination of all pigs and wild boar in the Liguria red-zone, whether they are healthy or not, and regardless of the fact if they run a risk of getting infected. A petition to revoke the ordinance is already in place, but more awareness is necessary to address the gap and to avoid risk of further extreme decisions against the safety of pigs, and many other animals in similar situations.
The awareness campaign “Pigs do not exist” a fundraising campaign created by the Associazione Sparta – Riserva dell’Animalità (Sparta Association – Animal Reserve), has been initiated to facilitate those involved in this situation, and to call out for a need to grow in knowledge and information coming from a different paradigm – an antispeciesist ethology foundation. You can contribute to the campaign which addresses three different objectives/areas:
It is time to dignify knowledge, science and an overall understanding of a need to evolve in coexisting. Please share !

The cultural no-profit association “Sparta – Riserva dell’Animalità” is born to develop a new culture of animal knowledge, to understand the importance of Animality, and to develop new activities that can bring, and spread, this culture in everyday life.
The Association develops study programs, for people to support the change through their own learning, creates cultural exchange moments, organises guest lectures, creates space for practical experiences, works on publications for a different image of coexisting, and inspires on a daily basis to make a different knowledge paradigm tangible.
You can become a member to support the association in activities developed throughout the year, such as seminars, publications, social media presence, you can donate, or give support to and through specific campaigns.
Our current campaign is dedicated to creating awareness for the critical position, the lack of knowledge, information and need for an evolution in procedures and regulations when it comes to situations as the ASF outbreak – the reason it is caused, but also the risk of preventive measurements, and the lives at stake, as is the case for the campaign “Pigs do not exist”.
You can also be part of the Association, develop your own knowledge and Animality partaking in one of the study programs (all proceedings are dedicated to the Association) taking the opportunity to be part of this philosophy, spreading this message, the revolution that it brings, even by simply living and preserving Animality in your own daily life.
A cultural change that builds new images – new thoughts, where animals are not denied, reified, mechanised and oppressed.
The Association Sparta – Riserva dell’Animalità, a non-profit organization, was founded with the desire to make a cultural, scientific, social and practical paradigm shift, from an animal knowledge that oppresses, to one that frees, starting from the fundamentals of antispeciesist ethology, where the coordinates of animality, subjectivity and animal cognition, become recognizable, enhanced, facilitated, experienced and perceived within the dimensions of coexistence of humans with (other) animals, but also for a new, more correct, understanding of natural phenomena, environmental and eco-ethological topics, ensuring paths of study, experience and promotion, which facilitate a dialogue with the world, based on the development of liberated relationships and emancipated from beliefs, habits, pressures and expectations.
The Association is founded on the basis of the Learning Animals studies and initiatives that have taken place in the passed decade. The Association is registered in Italy, founded at the end of 2021. The website – in development – in Italian with the full published statutes is: www.associazionesparta.org
Below an extract of an English translation. Further website developments in both Italian and English are planned in the course of 2022:
A reality then that focuses on an awareness, an evolution of thought, but also and above all a contact with ones own animality and animal logic that follows, as well as with important aspects of physical and mental well-being. The Association is responsible for the implementation and development of activities, in collaboration with other social, cultural, scientific and associative, national and international, entities for a process of change in continuous evolution. The mission of the Association Sparta – Animality Reserve is to emphasize the concepts and practical aspects related to – the meaning of animality (including human); – the importance of recognition related to bio-naturalistic and bio-evolutionary phenomena related to animals; – the thorough and authentic understanding of animal cognition and coordinates of social cognition; – the appreciation of the importance of knowing and protecting an animal logic; – establish a lifestyle and coexistence where there is a full involvement of the mental, physical and subjective sphere of each animal, including humans;
