Learn, Experience, Live

UPCOMING START DATES NEW STUDIES:

Learning Animals is an anchor for anyone who wants to understand and preserve their experiences and social dynamics, for themselves and everyone with whom they live. Our online platform will facilitate the start of all upcoming studies and events, in a time where social dynamics are to be understood and to preserved, as the essence of a shared culture is to be preserved in everyone’s own family – human and other animals. A time to rediscover how to experience life – from the Animality perspective.

The Learning Animals “Animality Studies” are your key to a different understanding in knowledge and daily practice towards an evolution in our coexistence with other animals.

A study to be able to facilitate dynamics, in a way that a horse, dog, cat or human can be – or can regain – his or her authentic self.

While in the last decennium animals as sentient beings have become a topic of broader attention, our basic education and habits towards non-human animals are still deep-rooted in an old paradigm. One can talk about animals as subjects, as sentient beings, but taking into account that they should be owner of their own life is not so easy in practice, as it requires to let go of an anthropocentric worldview that is not easily recognized.

“We cannot pretend that we can ‘think’ our way back to understanding Animal Subjectivity. One has to learn how to regain it, with everything you have, with everything you are” [International Learning Animals Summer Camp 2017]

– A Changing Perspective –

There is increasing attention for non-human animals, their intrinsic value, well-being, their capacities and needs. However, without a changing perspective starting within Animal Studies, new knowledge risks to only satisfy the human animal. As a real change requires to evolve within our society when it comes to norms and values considering our coexistence with other animals.

Because the question is what does new knowledge bring? The possibility to understand a different perspective? Or new behaviour manipulation techniques? The usage of nonhuman animals in more sophisticated ways? Growing expectations?

A change in understanding requires knowledge that brings evolution, quality experiences for other animals, evolve in relationships, breaking with the anthropocentric viewpoint.

Evolving in our relation with horses requires a different study path, a different knowledge.

Learning Animals brings – with two specific study programs – a complete change in paradigm in the way human look at, and understand, nonhuman animals.

  • Study the human-nonhuman animal relationship from the perspective of nonhuman animals and the knowledge of their cognitive abilities as subjects (the Learning Animals Socio-Cognitive Learning model).
  • Study and develop an understanding of the perspective of nonhuman animals, animal minds and evolved animal ethics, in interaction with human, preserving a cognitive dynamic – instead of reacting upon the world – to preserve a reciprocal quality of life.
  • Understand subjectivity and agency, not as projection, but as compass in your own interaction, in every moment of life.

The Learning Animals study programs offer together a framework in which new values, knowledge and evolved animal ethics find their place. Students are therefor fully and individually supported, in each program, in their understanding of the study-content and their personal growth. On-site groups are with a limited number of participants, online study possibilities are based on live-sessions, guarantying the learning as an active experience.

The studies are developed by Learning Animals and the knowledge, experience and passion of Dr. Francesco De Giorgio and José De Giorgio-Schoorl. Participants will learn how the behavioral approach, and result-oriented focus, can make room for subjectivity, social learning and sharing of experiences. Growing in a shared culture of emancipated minds.

  • Understanding Animality

    Learning Horse

A study to start understanding Animality, as a first exploration of relations beyond the horizon of an anthropocentric culture, breaking free from limited images incorporated in a culture we grow up in. Learn to be in tune with others in a shared culture.

  • Shared Culture

    Learning Dog

Evolving in a relation means - for all involved - know how to be yourself, together. Central in the Learning Dog study is to learn how to facilitate someone in being owner of their experiences (whether dog, horse, human, or any other animal) and deconstruct the tendency of observing and analysing reactivity - even to define someone.

  • Stay Cognitive

    Animality Horizons

“As human-too-much-human, most of the time we take the dynamics of social interactions for granted. How do you have attention for others? How can you stay yourself, develop yourself and give others the space for their expression at the same time? How can you experience others without losing yourself in social interactions?”
